Kayak trip Valön to Hamburgsund 20090815

We started the day with a good travel plan which passed a lot of interesting points. The weather was showing a lot of clouds, and we expected winds, as well as shelter from the surrounding islands. We also expected some rain, so the dresses you see today is different from yesterday's photos from yesterday paddle trip.

Not only did it lead us to interesting points. It also led us to become the attraction of a group of tourists being guided in a larger boat through the same area. That stopped and had us as attraction (at a point where we were almost the closest we came that day to being on the west side of the islands, no longer protected against the waves on the ocean outside). It was almost directly after that point we turned into an island and had a break, and just when leaving the island, we met another large group paddlers from a local club.

From here, we went between a number of islands down to Hamburgsund. Besides the beauty in Hamburgsund with a whole city built on the shores of a long crack in the cliffs, was another nice attraction. The two sides of the city was connected by a cable boat. Large warning signs explain how important it is not to be over the cable when the boat starts onto the other shore, and thus lifts the cable up out of the water to pull itself there.

Here was a decision point. already earlier we had concluded that one group felt this was long enough and wanted to turn home, while another group preferred going further, through all of Hamburgsund and coming out on the other side. I and my wife was in the group which decided to go back. The guy who had held the group together was in the other group.

Only 20 minutes later, our smaller group came to a place where one could decide on different routes for getting further. As me and my wife was a little behind the others when they arrived there, I do not know what the discussions were, but two persons went for another target. One other person took another route, we guessed to the same target as the other two, and the rest of the group except one headed forward to our destination. The one left, just like the person that had held the group together before, stayed and explained what alternative routes she could see, and the advantage with them. We took the route she suggested, and we paddled all together back to Valön, the island where we were staying.
